If you're after the OOC jpeg look, why not just tweak the OOC jpegs instead? I'm a RAW-only Lightroom user, but if you want free, have you tried the free Capture One app? You'll likely get better X-Trans demosaicing and sharpening than with Silkypix. I can't say I've had much experience with the Silkypix developer, but I'm not seeing any better detail in the RAW conversion than in the OOC jpeg. Good luck to you, and above all have some fun! The more time you spend the better your skills will get. So, spend some time experimenting with all this until you get some results you really like. Ugly is a matter of artistic taste, though. If you still do not see borders or haloes, change the radius to 5 pixels and the borders and haloes will become dominant and very ugly. Go back to unsharp mask now, and increase the slider all the way, while watching the screen. This is how you know that noise suppression is ruining your image in the first place. When you set smoothness to zero the details will literally jump off the screen at you. Set all the numbers to zero, while watching the screen. This has a very large effect on sharpness but nobody tells you this. Now click the little brush next to the down-pointing diamond. Set threshold to 1 (you can experiment later).
Set radius to 0.6 pixel and increase slider to 125. Three of them are canned formulas and the fourth one is unsharp mask. Clicking the diamond will get you to a place where you can pick out four different ways to sharpen. The other sharpening function has a little brush and a down-pointing diamond. This seems to me the best way to increase sharpness, because I do not see much bordering or sharpening haloes. Set view size to 100% and then adjust this. The first one is "demosaicing sharpening" under the gears icon near the little scissors and those other things. When you open the raw in Silkypix (assuming you are using the free Fuji/Silkypix raw developer EX 3.0, not the version of Silkypix that you pay money for), it might be applying the sharpening settings to the raw. If walking sticks are backlit, the borders are real and not artifacts of the sharpening process! Oversharpening appears in the JPGs as lighter or darker borders around fine edges, such as walking sticks or necklaces. The raw processor gives you this control. Besides this, sharpening in the camera is based on canned functions over which you have no control. I believe you have a sharpening setting in the camera, and it is just a tad too strong.
